The main transponder issued in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is E-ZPass.
If you wish to order the E-ZPass, the commonwealth offers the following types of accounts:
Pennsylvania offers both pre-paid and post-paid E-ZPass options. Individuals may not use the post-pay options - only businesses. All options require you open an E-ZPass account where funds and payments may be managed.
For individuals, the first transponder is $35, plus a $3 annual fee. Additional transponders on individual accounts are $38. The pre-paid option requires that you have money on your account and maintain money on account in order to pay for tolls as they are incurred.
For the post-paid option for businesses, see more in the green window below.
The business accounts are for individuals or companies that have vehicles weighing 15-thousand pounds or more and have a minimum of ten (10) vehicles to put on the account. These vehicles include tractor-trailers, RVs, buses, fleets of any class.
Businesses may opt to use a pre-paid or post-paid tolling option. The post-paid option is for companies that spend a minimum of $5,000 per year on tolls. This option does require a surety bond in the amount of $5000 or two-months invoices, whichever is greater.
Pennsylvania also extends a companion program to E-ZPass business account holders from other states. If you believe your business may qualify for additional volume discounts, you may apply to a companion program in Pennsylvania.

It is normal to get a toll transponder from the most prominent agency in any given state; however, how you travel can influence whether you get a different transponder, or even more than one.
Families and businesses will often have more than one vehicle. This usually means there is more than one transponder/pass on an account.
Most agencies allow more than one transponder to be assigned to an account, often up to five per family, and more for businesses. However, only one transponder or sticker ID can be assigned to any one vehicle at any given time.
When you order a pass, you will be required to set up a toll pass account with the state or regional agency that issues the transponder or sticker. This is how you will manage your transponders, your vehicles and add funds to your new toll passes.
When you get your pass, you will need to associate the identification number on the transponder or sticker with the vehicle you are using.
Proper installation of your new sticker or transponder is vital to assuring the device can be read by tolling equipment.
The illustration below provides a quick reference, and we have a complete installation guide, including special instructions for installing license-plate transponders, which are often used on large trucks and vehicles with metal-oxide windows.
NOTICE! If you are using a toll pass or transponder with one of the following networks, your pass will not work in Pennsylvania.
