Gas Price Report For August 14, 2017

Austin, TX – The price of gas continued to rise through the past week, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The cost of a gallon of regular unleaded pushed upward over a half penny this week, by far the lowest increase in recent weeks, and barely enough to budge the national average very much. As a result, the cost of a gallon of regular unleaded will still set you back only about $2.38.

Prices did not go up in all regions this week, however. The E.I.A.’s weekly pricing survey shows the cost of fuels along the Eastern seaboard, and down to the Gulf Coast, fell anywhere from a penny to nearly two cents per gallon. But prices across the West Coast jumped over two cents per gallon, and coupled with a nearly 4¢ surge in prices across the Rocky Mountain states, the national price average was kept from what would have been a mild decline. A 1.5¢ increase in prices across the heavily-populated Midwest also helped hold the national averages from a price decline.

This week’s movement in the price of diesel did not do any favors for truckers, as the cost of fuel rose nearly two cents. The national average price of a gallon of diesel is now $2.60 per gallon. As with gasoline, prices across the West Coast and Rocky Mountain states surged, pushing the national average higher. In the Midwest, prices jumped nearly three cents, on average, while prices were up about a penny or slightly more than a penny along the East Coast. Prices were flat in the Gulf Coast region.
