The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting at this hour that three service plazas on Florida’s Turnpike have reopened. With Hurricane Matthew’s influence significantly diminished in the South Florida area, officials have reopened the Snapper Creek Service Plaza on the Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike. The Pompano Beach Service Plaza and the West Palm Beach Service Plaza are also reopened at this time.
Authorities originally closed the plazas in stages Thursday afternoon. The remaining plazas, all of which are in areas still being whipped by Hurricane Matthew, will be closed until after the storm passes and engineers have determined the buildings are structurally safe.
