The Cleveland-Youngstown area, which includes Akron and surrounding communities, has a single main toll road running through the region, the Ohio Turnpike. The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission runs the Ohio Turnpike, and is the sole agency travelers deal with in the Buckeye State. However, because of its unique geography, drivers may encounter toll agencies in adjacent states.
As home of Americas Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland sits just east of the junction where I-80 and I-90 begin their overlap, becoming part of the Ohio Turnpike. West of that junction, the I-80/I-90 overlap continues to, and past, the Indiana State line. Where I-90 separates from the Ohio Turnpike, it runs eastward directly into Cleveland.
East of Cleveland, about a one-hour drive across the Erie notch of Pennsylvania, I-90 becomes the New York State Thruway, which is, therefore, a significant influence on metro area traffic going to and from the Niagara Falls and Buffalo area.
Meanwhile, I-80 continues east, but to the south of Cleveland, passing north of Akron until it turns to the southeast, connecting with I-76 due west of Akron. From there, I-80 continues into Pennsylvania, while the Ohio Turnpike overlaps I-76, continuing to the border with the Keystone State, where it connects with the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
